In a study, Salman Hyder, the Zalk Endowed Professor in Tumor Angiogenesis and professor of biomedical sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center, exposed rats with a certain type of breast cancer to apigenin, a common compound found in parsley and other plant products. The rats that were exposed to the apigenin developed fewer tumors and experienced significant delays in tumor formation compared to those rats that were not exposed to apigenin.Hyder believes this finding could impact women who are taking certain hormone replacement therapies.”Six to 10 million women in the United States receive hormone replacement therapy (HRT),” Hyder said.”We know that certain synthetic hormones used in HRT accelerate breast tumor development. In our study, we exposed the rats to one of the chemicals used in the most common HRTs received in the United States – a progestin called medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) – which also happens to be the same synthetic hormone that accelerates breast tumor development.”When tumor cells develop in the breast in response to MPA, they encourage new blood vessels to form within tumors. The blood vessels then supply needed nutrients for the tumors to grow and multiply. Hyder found that apigenin blocked new blood vessel formation, thereby delaying, and sometimes stopping, the development of the tumors. Hyder also found that the compound reduced the overall number of tumors. However, while apigenin did delay tumor growth, it did not stop the initial formation of cancer cells within the breast.
Apigenin is most prevalent in parsley and celery, but can also be found in apples, oranges, nuts and other plant products. However, apigenin is not absorbed efficiently into the bloodstream, so scientists are unsure of how much can or should be ingested.
“We don’t have specific dosage for humans yet,” Hyder said. “However, it appears that keeping a minimal level of apigenin in the bloodstream is important to delay the onset of breast cancer that progresses in response to progestins such as MPA. It’s probably a good idea to eat a little parsley and some fruit every day to ensure the minimal amount. However, you can also find this compound in pill supplements in the health food section of many stores. But even better would be to break the cell wall open, and extract the LIVE nutrients in the form of enzymes by juicing it!!! Of course, you should always check with your doctor before making any major changes to your diet or lifestyle.”
The next phrase of studies should include human clinical trials to determine the appropriate dosage amount, Hyder said. He believes further study on humans is necessary to address any health and safety issues that might exist.
The herb also has other beneficial properties including: Antibacterial, Anti-inflammatory, Antioxidant, Parsley is also a great source of vitamin C and beta-carotene (pro-vitamin A).Some people put parsley on as high of a pedestal as kale in regards to health benefits. Just 1 tablespoon of parsley contains 61.5 micrograms of vitamin K (77% RDA), 5 milligrams of vitamin C (8% RDA), and 316 IUs of vitamin A (6% RDA).Thanks to the herb’s magnificent nutritional profile, parsley health benefits range far and wide. Some of it’s healing effects include:
Anemia-prevention, Bladder infection prevention and treatment, Digestive aid, Kidney health, Bad breath treatment, Anti-arthritis, Blood tonic and purifier, Natural diuretic, Gas reduction, Indigestion soother, and IMMUNITY BOOSTER!!!
Juice about one ounce per day, and never juice it straight. Combine with a organic apple, lemon, and a few carrots!!!

CHICAGO (Reuters) – U.S. health regulators have cleared the way for a trial of genetically modified mosquitoes in Florida that can reduce mosquito populations, potentially offering a new tool to fight the local spread of Zika and other viruses.

Thousands of residents in tropical northern Australia have begun breeding mosquitoes at their homes as part of a trial which – if successful – could enable entire cities or countries to be protected from the Zika virus for as little as 69p a person.
The participating residents in Townsville in the state of Queensland on Monday began collecting special boxes which contain about 100 mosquito eggs each – along with food for the hatched mosquitoes – as part of a breeding program which will take about 12 weeks and is designed to end the spread of mosquito-borne viruses in the small city, which has 170,000 residents.
The hatched mosquitoes, supplied by Australian scientists, carry bacteria called Wolbachia which prevents them from transmitting viruses such as Zika and dengue. Crucially, these mosquitoes have been shown to pass the Wolbachia to offspring, so that entire mosquito populations are quickly overtaken by those which do not transfer viruses.

From Hong Kong – According to research published in Journal of the American College of Cardiology, men with erectile dysfunction are at significantly higher risk for developing heart disease. Researchers followed over 2,300 patients with type 2 diabetes and noted that those with ED were twice as likely to develop coronary artery disease. Given that ED may predict future heart disease, its documentation should be included in the assessment of cardiovascular risk.
From Rome – According to research published in the Lancet Oncology, testing thyroid nodules for the presence of galectin-3, a protein that is involved in inhibiting cell replication, may reduce the number of unnecessary surgeries for potential thyroid cancer. In a study of over 400 thyroid nodules that were potentially cancerous, researchers noted that if the lesion expressed the protein the likelihood of cancer was over 80%, and in its absence, it was less than 10%.
And finally from Toronto – Drinking caffeinated coffee an hour before eating breakfast cereal can affect the body’s blood-sugar response. In a study of 10 healthy men, those that drank caffeinated coffee before or while eating low-sugar cereal saw their blood glucose levels spike by 250% compared with decaf coffee. The researchers concluded that some people may be better off eating sweeter cereal, and drinking decaf.
